Common faults and maintenance methods of ignition system
2023-07-27 11:30:33

Many car owners and enthusiasts have knowledge about car maintenance, but they are usually more concerned about the maintenance of car paint, headlights, and tires, often neglecting the maintenance of the ignition system. However, the working status of the ignition system directly affects the performance of the engine and needs to be taken seriously. So what are the common faults and maintenance methods of the ignition system? Let's learn together.

Common faults

1 Aging and damage of ignition wire

When the engine is running, the working environment of the ignition system is very harsh. High temperature, dust, and vibration can cause it to age or even damage, leading to a significant reduction in ignition energy.

2. Increase fuel consumption, causing a decrease in power
Failure of the ignition adjustment device, excessive contact gap, or improper adjustment can all lead to unnecessary losses.

3. The engine cannot start

Generally speaking, the reason why the engine stops suddenly when running and cannot be started all the time is that the ignition system has a fault. The fault of the circuit between the ignition switch and the Distributor, spark plug, ignition switch and other related components in the ignition system will affect the start of the engine.

4. Ignition coil malfunction

The ignition coil is one of the core components of the ignition system, which mainly provides sufficient energy for the spark plug to generate sparks. Its common faults are the open circuit of the primary coil and the path of the secondary coil.

Maintenance methods

1. Regularly clean and inspect the exterior of the ignition system to ensure that the ignition coil casing is free of oil, dust, damage, and loose wiring terminals. Replace aged or damaged ignition coils in a timely manner and check their working performance.

2. Prevent the ignition coil from being heated or damp, maintain its good insulation performance, and create a good working environment for the ignition system. If there are water stains on the ignition coil, wipe it dry with a cloth in a timely manner.

3. Do not turn on the ignition switch when the engine is not running to avoid unnecessary consumption. Even if there are no faults in the ignition system, it is generally recommended to inspect the vehicle every 20000 kilometers. After driving 60000 kilometers, the high-pressure ignition wire should be replaced. If the engine runs unstable and cannot be started, it is likely that a lot of fuel has been wasted, causing irreversible wear and tear to the engine.

4. If the car owner likes to check, clean and update the corresponding parts frequently, the probability of the spark plug, ignition coil, line connector and other failures is high, so special attention should be paid. In addition, the Distributor cover, distributor head, spark plug plug and other components in the ignition system should also be regularly maintained and checked to ensure the normal operation of the vehicle.

The ignition system of a car directly affects the performance of the engine and determines whether the engine can work normally. But it is also a system that is prone to malfunctions in various systems of gasoline engines, so car owners try to pay attention to this easily overlooked ignition system while doing daily maintenance for their cars.
